Joakim Carlsson: The new digital life is here to stay

Today, there's a veritable revolution happening within many companies and organizations. They used to have their own IT departments, but increasingly more are seeing the advantages of outsourcing the entirety or parts of their IT operations – both in terms of efficiency and security, but also because it can decrease costs.

The ongoing Corona epidemic has forced organizations, companies, and people to quickly adapt to a new reality. Increasing numbers of people are working from home and will continue to do so in the future.

This will in turn decrease the need for, among other things, large offices, physical meetings, and trips, since most things can be handled digitally. At the same time, there's a greater need for adapting and developing businesses in accordance with the new and more sophisticated digital landscape that is emerging, both in terms of functionality and efficiency, but especially for dependability and security.

In parallel to this, there's also another ongoing development that will permanently redraw the map. More and more companies and organizations are seeing the benefits of outsourcing their IT operations to a third party, and are therefore doing so, says Joakim Carlsson, Sales Manager for Northern Europe at the rapidly expanding IT company Seavus, with headquarters in Lund, Sweden.

The development has been in progress for a long time but has picked up a significant amount of speed as a direct result of the Corona epidemic, where many companies have been forced to introduce large cutbacks. At the same time, the way work is being carried out has entered a stage of rapid change.

– The cost advantage alone is an important reason why increasingly more are choosing to outsource. There are significant sums to save, Joakim Carlsson continues.

– But just as important, if not more important, is that you can focus on your own core business while using your IT partner to develop and tailor systems that are in line with the company's special IT solution needs. What we've seen so far is just the beginning of a development, and it is my firm belief that the demand for these services will only increase in the future. This is something we also see on a more or less daily basis when we get inquiries from companies and others regarding whether or not we can help them.

Seavus has been an early bird, and from the start in 1999 we have acted as a third party in the IT sector. The business concept is as simple as it is genius.

Early on, the company's founder, Igor Lestar, with roots in North Macedonia, realized that there was a large knowledge resource within the IT sector of many Eastern European countries, and they were waiting to utilize their knowledge in actual work.

– Besides a high level of knowledge, many of these countries have an advantageous cost situation, which means it's possible to offer advanced IT solutions at a very competitive price, without having to compromise on quality. Many of them also have a large amount of solid experience of complex projects, Joakim Carlsson points out.

Other advantages include good English skills and an understanding of the high requirements our customers have. The fact that the developers are nearby and in the same time zone is also a facilitating factor, compared to if they were situated in India or China.

Since its inception, Seavus has grown to encompass operations in almost ten countries, primarily in Europe, but also in the U.S., where they are seeing a quickly growing interest and great potential for growth.

– Today, Seavus has 900 staff members, but in the fall season alone, we're expecting to need to hire an additional 200 IT workers. The demand for our services is enormous, says Joakim Carlsson.

– Our clients are involved in everything from industry, banking, and telecom to community services, such as healthcare. With a basis in every client's needs, we assemble a workgroup that can range from single consultants to a larger group of 20–30 people, depending on the size, complexity, and time frames of the assignment. Based on the client's needs, we carry out everything from isolated projects to taking over the entire operation of the company's IT system, development of different services as well as systems, and software and security solutions, including testing, analyzing, and fixing vulnerabilities in the system.

In total, we are collaborating with 4000 clients all over the world, including everything from small startups to global enterprises. Of course, we hope that even more will discover the benefits of outsourcing their IT operations, Joakim Carlsson adds.
