Joakim Carlsson: The benefits of nearshoring IT operations with Seavus

The Coronavirus crisis has led to the insight that remote work can have great results. Now it's time to take the plunge and make nearshoring of IT operations a reality, which in turn will help companies decrease IT costs, says Joakim Carlsson, Sales Director in Scandinavia at Seavus.

Increasingly more people are convinced that remote work will become the future norm for how we interact in our work.

With the concept of Remotization, we at Seavus have developed a strategy by which a team of 20–50 people take over the entirety or parts of the client companies' IT operations, such as software development, security, data storage, and application control.

Remotization has become very popular

With the Coronavirus pandemic, we saw an increased interest in our business, which resulted in hiring an additional 200 IT technicians.

– With our long experience, we were able to help our clients with processes and routines on how to work remotely with entire teams, considering that everything changed overnight in March. This worked so well, that many companies have indicated that they will continue to work like this, explained Joakim Carlsson.

As a Sales Director, Carlsson has also explored different options on how to convince customers of the benefits of nearshoring with Seavus.

– In some cases, it has been difficult to change their mindset. They have been locked in the wish to have staff and consultants on-site. But the pandemic has forced a change on all of us. There's considerable potential for savings with nearshoring in countries with lower costs, and this is an important factor considering that in the past months, companies were forced to cut various costs.

In addition, the cost of IT operations through us can be cut in half. A consultant in Skopje, North Macedonia, or Belgrade, Serbia, is much cheaper than one in Sweden. However, at Seavus, we can also optimize the work for the consultant, who can perform several tasks in parallel, which further decreases the cost, added Carlsson.

Seavus matches your culture and time zone

The difference between offshoring and nearshoring is the distance; however, having the work carried out in Europe, through nearshoring, leads to many advantages.

– On the one hand, we work in the same time zone, which favors communication. On the other hand, the physical distance allows for quick business trips to any of our clients should the need arise.

Outsourcing IT operations allows client companie to focus on their core operations, while routine tasks are handled outside of their own operations. By doing so, they can focus on what generates profit. Today, our staff is spread out over 16 different offices. The long experience of working remotely and with Remotization assures that we are closely knitted and drilled in the work methods, despite the physical distance. Thanks to this, we at Seavus are effective for a client from the very first day, especially in tasks that demand teamwork within the group.
