In this interview with Tomche Hristovski, Division Manager at Seavus’ Telco Division, we talked about the latest industry trends, the IT community in Belarus, the importance of having an unbeatable team, and how there’s no better way to celebrate a company’s anniversary than with a new client.
Seavus turns 20 and so does the Telco division. How has the division evolved throughout the years?
The Telco division is one of the oldest ones in Seavus, operating for 20 years. In the beginning, we were developing home PBX systems. A PBX (private branch exchange) is a telephone system within an enterprise that switches calls between enterprise users on local lines while allowing all users to share a certain number of external phone lines. Through hard work and determination, we have now become a division with 150 employees in more than 10 offices, making us the biggest division in Seavus not only in the number of employees but also in the number of delivered projects and revenue.
Our division skyrocketed in 2006 when Tele2 became one of our key clients for which we implemented a new billing system, and that was a complex and challenging project for us at the time. Tele2 are still our clients ever since, and we’ve been working for them in Sweden, the Netherlands, and Croatia, so you see we have a long history of working together and many more success stories in the years to come.
What are the hot topics in the Telco industry and what does the future hold?
Telco, as a domain, is one of the trend-setters that fuel the industry revolution because they are large enterprises that operate with big budgets. The advantage of working in the Telco domain is that you always keep pace with the latest technology trends. Nowadays, we can trace a pattern in the industry: everything has started to go mobile, phones have become our personal assistants, and their storage is not on the phone but somewhere on a Cloud. We also have 4G and 5G technologies that let information circulate faster, and with this pace, I’d say that the next disruptive technology is just around the corner.
The latest trends in technology are about data, using data, manipulating, analyzing and developing new data-centered approaches. We’ve concluded that, for the last 6-7 years, companies are not using the whole potential of analyzing data and so we work on developing and pushing the limits in IoT that soon will become Internet of Everything, not to mention Big Data, Data Analytics, Data Science, AI, Predictive Analytics – or in other words, work on transforming unstructured data into structured by looking for tends in the past and trying to predict the future. And Telcos are here to provide infrastructure for such development and further improvement of these approaches and technologies. The key term I talk about is ‘data’ since everything evolves around it nowadays.
And what does Seavus do to keep pace with this tempo; on what trends and with which technologies does it operate?
At Seavus, we constantly keep pace with the ever-changing world of technology and the latest industry trends. We work on IoT and Security, and what we focus on during the last period is Data Analytics, Digitalization, and Digital Transformation. This includes but it’s not limited to Data Science, AI, Chatbots, Blockchain, IoT and other solutions that we develop to fit the needs of our customers. We use the latest technologies in architecture like Microservices and Cloud platforms. The key term in this equation is ‘real-time’, i.e. real-time data analysis; we always aim to work with systems that can track and analyze data in real-time. We also analyze historical data using Hadoop, Kafka, Python, and other tools that help us find a historical pattern to do predictive analytics for the future.
We also have niche expertise in OSS (Operational Support Systems) and BSS (Business Support Systems), the two main segments in our Telco services. Despite Tele2, we’re also working with Vodafone, A1, T-Mobile, and one of the biggest telecom operators in Belarus, A1 (Unitary Enterprise A1) being part of A1 Telekom Austria group, for which we implemented and maintain many complex solutions. We’re also a global partner for digital solution implementation for ZTE and Whale Cloud which are giants in the Telco industry. Just for reference, Whale Cloud is the company behind the technical solution of Alibaba/AliExpress. So it’s easy to conclude that Seavus fuels the digital transformation of some of the biggest Telco companies in the industry.
Tell me a bit more about your experience in working in Belarus and their IT community. What’s trending there?
We have a great team working in Belarus! And now, having Whale cloud as a partner there means that the team will skyrocket in the period to come. We’re expecting a 120% increase in the number of employees in our Belarus offices. There, we work on Cloud and Data technologies, digital transformation, digitalization, and not to forget Business Intelligence, DWH, CRM, and Billing.
We have many Senior Developers there that add value to the whole team. They’re one of the most solid and well-built teams that we have in our Telco division. One of our clients calls them “The Belarusian Armada” since they deliver outstanding results and turn every challenge into a new opportunity and make the best of it. And, of course, we’ve never stopped investing in their professional development. They’ve been working together for quite a while, and for us, it’s important to keep such cohesion and team spirit for the clients to come. Seavus’ team in Belarus works on three segments: offers consultancy services for clients on-premise, works on product development, and does nearshoring for European clients.
And in the end, what does it mean to work in Seavus?
When I talk about company values in Seavus, I always think of pushing people beyond the limits of their personal and professional development.
